Chris grew up in rural Northland, typical kiwi up bringing. Enjoying all sport. Cricket taking him overseas to England. Back at Whangarei he spent many years chasing a rugby ball for the local club Mid-Western.
10 years as a chippie under the belt had him changing careers in his late 20’s serving for Fire and Emergency NZ for the next 12 years
Finding running later on in life, taking on New Zealand’s toughest Ultra ‘The Revenant” straight off the bat. Only a couple of years in some solid trail time and he is hooked .
Inspiring his 3 young boys whom want to be just like dad, Chris puts all his energy into embracing the running community and steering his boys in the right direction in life.
Helen grew up in rural Hawkes Bay, farmers daughter. Couldn’t keep her indoors. The travel bug got her early, from backpacking Australia to teaching scuba diving in Thailand, farming in Scotland, vanning around Europe, from luxury lodges, bungee jumping, tour guide, fruit picking to bar tender
Helen was a wanderer and self-proclaimed explorer. Her passion being in the New Zealand back country had her find trail running and fast packing from a young age.
Returning home from 6 years of travel, swapping the suitcase life for a career in Fire and Emergency NZ and settling down in Northlands major town Whangarei. 6 years on Helen hangs up the bunker gear up to pursue a new venture and opportunities in the running community.
Meeting through the Fire Service, Chris and Helen shared a passion for hard work and the attraction of the on-going ‘challenge’ as a firefighter, with the high pressure situations, think on your feet, helping people in need, no days the same occupation.
During her 8 months in Antarctica “wintering over” as a fire fighter for the USA base McMurdo Station 2022 Helen kept her non- running sanity in cheque by focusing all her efforts to help Chris from a far ,not only believe, but achieve great things in his first attempt / first running event
New Zealand’s toughest adventure race “The Revenant”.
Daily emailing, training plans, nutrition and guidance had Helen entering Chris into the Taupo Ultra 100km as a test /training run and meeting him at the start line off the US C-17 plane 9 months later.
Fast forward a year, 1 Revenant, 1 Godzone, 4 Backyards, 1 back country mission, endless days on the trails, a lot of new found friends and family. Support from the few always in our camp, we have found a need and an opportunity present itself in the fast growing ultra running community .
Chris and Helen have spent a small fortune, travelling to these endurance events, be it the Backyard Ultra runs or adventure racing, the logistics of gear hire, setup pack down and clean whilst the body is hurting from the chosen events efforts, taking additional days off work to make it all happen it. It dawned on us that there was an opportunity here for a small business to end up doing quite well if done right.
We jumped on it. Took a leap of faith putting our best trail foot forward we are hoping we are of an added benefit to the race director’s bout mostly our runners that want the ease of travel to and from their chosen event. More time to focus on their run journey or adventure and less time about the logistics.
Chris and Helen has tried and trialled all that is needed in long duration events and designed a package to suit all budgets and runners/athlete’s needs.
